
Erskine - Hazel Hanson, 91, formerly of Goodridge, died Thursday, December 4, 1997 at Pioneer Memorial Home in Erskine.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, December 9 at 1 p.m. at Ekelund Lutheran Church in Goodridge with Reverend Robert Dahlen officiating. Grace Hammer provided the special music. Burial was at Greenwood Cemetery in Thief River Falls. The Green Funeral Home of Thief River Falls was in charge of the arrangements.
Hazel Cordealia Kolstrand was born on May 7, 1906 in Kittson County, the daughter of Peter and Nettie (Sanner) Kolstrand. As a youngster she moved with her family to the River Valley area in Pennington County and later to Star township. She was baptized at Oak Park Lutheran Church and attended rural school District 56 in Star township.
Hazel was united in marriage to Andrew Hanson on July 11, 1931 in Thief River Falls. The couple make their home in Hickory township of Pennington County. On August 28, 1992 the couple moved to Pioneer Memorial Home in Erskine. Hazel continued to reside there after Andrew died on March 6, 1995.
She is survived by four daughters, Arlen (Lloyd) Tanem of Hastings, Lora Nyland of Goodridge, Verna (Richard) Lott of Nikiski, AK and Fern (Eldon) Groven of Elk River; 16 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; one daughter-in-law, Betty Sandeen of Brooks; one brother, Lester Kolstrand of Goodridge; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, Hazel was preceded in death by her parents, two sons, Forrest and Robert; one son-in-law, Roger Nyland; five sisters, Jesse Hanson, Mae Manderud, Pearl Kolstrand, Gladys Hanson and Nora Casavan; two brothers, Clifford and Melvin Kolstrand; as well as five other brothers and sisters in infancy.
