Thief River Falls - Eunice Hanson, 68, died Friday, October 31, 1997 at Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls.
Funeral services will be held today, Wednesday, November 5 at 11 a.m. at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls with Reverend Galen Sylvester officiating. Joyce Halbasch will be the organist, and Joe Kezar will be the soloist. Casketbearers will be Mark DuChamp, Gary Hanson, Dale Hanson Jr., Greg Burstad, Terry Burstad and Robert Burstad. Honorary casketbearers will be Alfred Hanson, Norman Hanson, Gunder Hanson, Verner Arveson, Art Brown and Del Bergdahl. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery in Thief River Falls.
Visitation was held at the Green Funeral Home on Tuesday from 3 to 8 p.m. with a 7 p.m. prayer service and one hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday.
Eunice Annie Burstad was born on June 28, 1929 in Star township of Pennington County, the daughter of Gilbert and Thilda (Stolaas) Burstad. She was baptized August 7, 1929 and confirmed October 19, 1943 at Ekelund Lutheran Church of rural Goodridge. She attended school in Goodridge.
Eunice worked at the River Valley Store. On October 26, 1947 she was united in marriage to Goodwin Hanson in Goodridge. Following their marriage, they moved to Thief River Falls where she worked at several retail shops. She operated Hanson's Cafe with her husband for two years, and in 1972 they operated Hanson's Department Store in Red Lake Falls. Goodwin died on October 12, 1976. Following her husband's death, she managed Country Acres Apartments and later Northland Village. She also worked at the Heritage Community Center in Thief River Falls.
She was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church, American Legion Auxiliary and the Eagle's Auxiliary.
Eunice is survived by one daughter Julie (Jeff) Olson of Thief River Falls; two sons, Donald (Karen) Hanson of Coon Rapids and Dale (Coreen) Hanson of Quincy, IL; seven grandchildren; two sisters, Ordell (Del) Bergdahl of Thief River Falls and Ione DeBauche of Oakdale; three brothers, Robert (Lois) Burstad of Thief River Falls, Terry (Mary Jo) Burstad of Ham Lake and Greg Burstad of Duluth; many nieces and nephews; and several cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two brothers, Reuben and Gordon; one sister, Ruby Burstad; one sister-in-law, Lynn Burstad and one brother-in-law, Merle DeBauche.
