
Thief River Falls - Arvin Hanson, 89, died Tuesday, November 11, 1997 at Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls.
Funeral services were held Saturday, November 15 at 2 p.m. at the Evangelical Free Church in Thief River Falls with the Reverend Curtis Anderson officiating. Special music was provided by organist Audrey Hanson and soloist Ruth Christensen. Arvin's grandchildren were the casketbearers. Burial was at Landstad Cemetery in Sander township of Pennington County. Arrangements were with the Green Funeral Home of Thief River Falls.
Arvin Chester Hanson was born on September 27, 1908 in Holst township of Clearwater County near Bagley, the son of Arnold and Clara (Anderson) Hanson. He was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church near Bagley and attended Gateway School District 43 there. Arvin worked on the family farm as a youngster and later in a saw mill. He attended Willmar Bible School in Willmar for two years.
He was united in marriage to Gertrude Lockrem on July 26, 1937 at Norden Lutheran Church, rural Thief River Falls. The couple lived near Leonard where Arvin worked as a logger and at various other jobs. In 1944 the couple moved to Thief River Falls. Arvin worked for Forsberg Manufacturing, Peterson-Biddick and Land O'Lakes. In 1966 they moved to Minneapolis where Arvin worked for Honeywell Co. In 1975 they returned to Thief River Falls and have lived here since. Gertrude died on September 2, 1995. Shortly after her death Arvin moved to Valley Home and just recently to Oakland Park Nursing Home.
Arvin was a member of the Evangelical Free Church in Thief River Falls. He enjoyed working with wood and made many craft items. He especially enjoyed classical music.
He is survived by one son, Dave (Kay) Hanson of Thief River Falls; three daughters, Arlys (Jerry) Hendrickson of Alexandria, Ruth (Jim) Weckwerth of Thief River Falls and Judy (Steve) Ahern of Puyallup, WA; 11 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; one sister, Mildred Hanson of Bagley; two brothers, Alton Hanson of Eden Prairie and Harley (Delores) Strom of Casper, WY.
In addition to his wife, Arvin was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Lorie Hendrickson, in infancy; one brother, Clarence Hanson; and two sisters-in-law, Myrtle and Lydia Hanson.
