
Roseau - Henry Hammerback Sr., 95, died Wednesday, March 22, 2000 at Sheltering Oaks Nursing Home in Roseau.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m on Saturday, March 25 at First Lutheran Church in Warren with Rev. Tom Undem officiating. Darlyne Votava was the organist. Casketbearers were Jerrod Hammerback, Jason Hammerback, Justin Hammerback, Rodney Bentow, Robert Bentow and Douglas Bentow. Interment was in Woodlawn Cemetery in Argyle with the Quanrud-DuBore Funeral Home of Warren in charge of the arrangements.
Henry Hammerback was born on February 1, 1905 in Halma where he spent his early years and attended school.
On November 30, 1932, he was united in marriage to Gladys Johnson in Warren. They lived at Gatzke and Argyle before moving to Warren in 1957. Henry worked as a blacksmith. The couple moved to Roseau in 1995. Gladys died on February 22, 1998.
Henry enjoyed fixing and making things, the outdoors, especially hunting, fishing and berry picking.
He was a charter member of the Eastern Marshall County Sportsmens Club and a member of the Warren Rod and Gun Club.
Henry is survived by two daughters, Avis Bentow of Strathcona and Doreen (Collin) Jensen of Roseau; one son, Henry (Phyllis) of Roseau; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one sister, Myrtle Sullivan of Minneapolis; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Gladys; one son-in-law, Bob Bentow; two sisters, Anna and Christine; and three brothers, Arthur, Alfred and Charley. A00003B2000MR29
