Selmer Halvorson, 77

Walker - Selmer Halvorson, 77, died Sunday, April 12, 1998 at Ah Gwah Ching Nursing Home in Walker.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 16 at Nazareth Lutheran Church in Trail with Reverend Steven Sparley officiating. Grace Hammer will provide special music. Casketbearers will be Gary Halvorson, Galen Halvorson, Arlen Gustafson, Danny Finseth, Ernest Mostrom and David Arveson. Burial will be in Nazareth Lutheran Cemetery in Hickory township of Pennington county.

Visitation will be from noon to 7 p.m. today (Wednesday, April 15) at the Green Funeral Home in Thief River Falls with a prayer service at 7 p.m. and for one hour prior to services at the church on Thursday.

Selmer Thophil Halvorson was born on April 19, 1920 in Johnson township of Polk county, the son of Henry C. and Emma (Dale) Halvorson. He was raised in Hickory township of Polk county and attended Woodview School in District 3. He was confirmed at Nazareth Lutheran Church. Selmer attended high school in Goodridge and Agriculture College in Crookston.

In 1942 Selmer moved to Seattle, WA where he went to work in the shipyards, and in October of 1946 he entered the U.S. Army. Following his discharge he returned to Minnesota and to Hickory township in the 1960's. He later moved to Minneapolis where he worked as a painter. He then worked for McIntosh Manor as a painter, and he also worked for Julian Gunderson Apartments.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting and visiting with family and friends.

Selmer is survived by five sisters, Regina (Marvin) Gustafson of Thief River Falls, Clara (Walter) Johnson of Mill Creek, WA, Helen (Ellsworth) Pitchford of Arlington, WA, Alvina (Maynard) Jablinske of Lynnwood, WA and Dolores (Palmer) Lee of Bothell, WA; two brothers, Raymond Halvorson of McIntosh and Edwin (Stella) Halvorson of Trail; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Clifford and Oscar.
