
Thief River Falls - James Halvorson, 18, died Saturday, August 23, 1997 in Devils Lake, ND.
Funeral services will be held today, Wednesday, August 27 at 10:30 a.m. at New Hope Lutheran Church in Newfolden with Reverend Ollie Urdahl officiating. Kathy Rokke will be the organist and Denea Barrett will be the soloist. Casketbearers will be Tony Knutson, Mike Leas, Cody Gillund, Braden Oberg, Adalpe Leal and Charles Carlson. Burial will be in the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in New Solum township of Marshall County.
Visitation was held at the Green Funeral Home Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. with a 7 p.m. prayer service, and at the church for one hour today prior to services.
James Allen Halvorson was born on October 3, 1978 in Warren, the son of Curtis and Pam (Erlenmeyer) Halvorson. He lived on the family farm until the age of five when the family moved to Viking. James attended grade school in Viking and graduated from Marshall County Central High School in 1997. Jim enjoyed going to the farm to spend time with this uncle Kenneth. In his youth, Jim mowed lawns for family and friends. As a junior in high school, he worked for Jim's Steamagic of Thief River Falls. In May of 1997, he started employment with Arctic Cat, Inc. of Thief River Falls.
Jim had many intersts during his school years and a great love for baseball. He was a member of the Viking Volcanoes 4-H Club where he played on the softball team. He also played summer rec baseball and with the high school team, the Tri-County Wild Cats. He enjoyed hunting with his father, uncles and friends. Jim had an interest in gun repair and hoped to make it his career.
Jim is survived by his parents, Curtis and Pam Halvorson of Viking; one brother, Joseph Halvorson of Viking; one sister, Jessica Halvorson of Viking; one half brother, Curtis Halvorson Jr. of St. Hilaire, one half sister, Roxanne (Steve) Zavoral of St. Hilaire; grandfather, Robert Erlenmeyer and his wife, Margit of Thief River Falls; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by an infant brother; grandparents, Hagebert and Anna Halvorson; grandmother, Doris Swenson; uncle, Chester Halvorson and special long-time friend, Alex Cloutier.
