William Henry Hallameck was born on October 12, 1908 near Kinbrae, the son of Emery and Anna Hallameck. He lived in southern Minnesota until 1919 when the family moved to St. Hilaire. William attended school in Fulda and St. Hilaire.
In 1927, William moved to Washington, D.C. to look for work. With no jobs available and encouragement from family members, William went to Lambert Field in St. Louis and received instruction in flying. In June of 1928, he received his pilot's license. He returned to the area and flew for Huffsmith Flying Service of Grand Forks at local county fairs. He was a member of OX-5 Aviation Pioneers, the Silver Wing Society and the Early Birds.
On June 5, 1933, William was united in marriage to Grace Richards at Red Lake Falls. The couple lived with his parents for a year before moving west of Thief River Falls to farm and raise turkeys for eight years. In 1941, they moved to Red Lake Falls and farmed the original Richards homestead until their retirement in 1977. They maintained a home on the farm and for the past few years, a permanent home in Thief River Falls.
William is survived by his wife, Grace; a sister Anne Hallameck of Littleton, Co.; a son, Robert Hallameck of Englewood, Co.; and two grandchildren.
