
Roseau - Melvin Hagen, 87, died Sunday, March 5, 2000 at the Roseau Area Hospital in Roseau.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 9 at Bethel Lutheran Church in Stafford township of Roseau county. The Helgeson Funeral Chapel of Roseau was in charge of the arrangements.
Melvin was born on November 12, 1912 in Stafford township of Roseau county, the son of M.L. and Hilda (Johansson) Hagen. He grew up and attended school in Stafford township.
On July 11, 1943, Melvin was united in marriage to Helen Albin at Bethel Lutheran Church of Stafford township. Melvin farmed all of his life, living not far from where he was raised.
He was active in 4-H, served as clerk of the town board, was treasurer of the church council and also served on the Farm Bureau board.
Melvin enjoyed reading, history, and travel. When he was 82 years old, he traveled to Norway to Norheimsund, the town his father was from. He especially enjoyed spending time with this family.
Survivors include his wife, Helen; four sons, Paul (Eileen) of Yorkville, IL, Michael (Karen) of Roseau, Tom of Roseau and Donald (Connie) of Plummer; two daughters, Marion (Jerry) Solom of Wannaska and Janet (Greg) Johnson of Lakeville; 15 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one half brother, John Alenius; and one half sister, Nan Lundgren. A00003B2000MR15
