Helen Hagen, 77

Roseau - Helen Hagen, 77, died Monday, October 9, 2000 at Roseau Area Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, October 12, at Bethel-Stafford Lutheran Church in Roseau. Interment will be in Bethel-Stafford Cemetery.

Visitation will be held today (Wednesday, October 11) from 4 to 7 p.m. with a 6:30 p.m. devotional service at Helgeson Funeral Chapel in Roseau.

Helen Mae Albin was born on May 1, 1923 in Stafford township of Roseau county, the daughter of Victor and Alida (Syverson) Albin. She grew up in Stafford township and attended school in District 19. She later graduated from Roseau High School.

On July 11, 1943, she married Melvin Hagen at Bethel-Stafford Lutheran Church. The couple farmed livestock and small grains in Stafford where they have continued to make their home. Helen also worked as a bookkeeper for Builders Supply for more than 20 years. Melvin died in March of 2000.

She was an active member of Bethel Lutheran Church where she was participated in Ladies Aid, taught Sunday school for many years and was the first woman to serve on the church council. She was also active in 4-H.

Helen enjoyed cooking, baking, sewing, quilting and especially spending time with her family.

Survivors include three sons, Paul (Eileen) of Yorkville, Ill., Michael (Karen) of Roseau and Donald (Connie) of Plummer; two daughters, Marion (Jerry) Solom of Wannaska and Janet (Greg) Johnson of Lakeville; 15 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Beatrice (Evan) Grahn of Bradenton, Fla., Ardys (Wally) Erickson of Little Falls and Gerda (Allon) Anderson of Yuma, Ariz.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Melvin; two brothers, Milford and John; and two sisters, Bessie and Amanda. A00003B2000OC11
