
Tyler - Howard Haaven, 74, died Monday, December 29, 1997 at his daughter's home in Newport.
Funeral services were held Saturday, January 3, 1998 at 2 p.m. at Danebod Lutheran Church in Tyler with Reverend Karl Lunder officiating. Mary Jenson was the organist. Casketbearers were Jeffrey Bradley, Amy Bradley, Jamie Bradley, Trevor Haaven, Luke Haaven and Jackie Opperman. Burial was at Hope Cemetery in Tyler. The Tyler Area Funeral Home/Kulow Funeral Service of Tyler was in charge of the arrangements.
Howard Richard Haaven was born on July 31, 1923 at Plummer, the son of Hans and Randi (Gullingsrud) Haaven. He attended school and graduated from high school in Plummer.
On February 15, 1947 he was united in marriage to Yvonne Schnell at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Tyler. The couple lived in Tyler where Howard worked at the Tyler Elevator. They spent a few years in Arco where he worked at the Arco Elevator. In 1970 the couple moved to Ruthton where he worked for Pilegaard's Implement. In 1973 Howard and Yvonne returned to Tyler. He worked for the City of Tyler until his retirement in 1988.
A former Kiwanis member, Howard enjoyed fishing, playing cards and visiting.
Howard is survived by his wife, Yvonne of Tyler; one daughter Shirley (Gary) Scharnberg of Newport; two sons, Galen (Jill) Haaven of Almelund and Loren Haaven of Tyler; and four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Collette; one brother, Kenneth; and one granddaughter, Dana Haaven.
