Anne Gustafson, 90

Viking - Anne Gustafson, 90, died Tuesday, May 26, 1998 at Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls.

Funeral services were held on Friday, May 29, 1998 at 10 a.m. at the Viking Covenant Church in Viking with Pastor Donn Roach officiating. Ann Abeler was the organist, and Nancy Fisher was the soloist. Nancy Fisher and Kent Hudson sang a duet. Casketbearers were John Gustafson, Larry Gustafson, Lewayne Gustafson, Jon Hanson, Bill Brinkman and Tony Gustafson. Burial was in the Viking Cemetery. The Green Funeral Home of Thief River Falls was in charge of the arrangements.

Anne Katherine Larson was born on April 23, 1908 in Viking, the daughter of John and Emma (Anderson) Larson. She was baptized and confirmed in the Mission Covenant Church in Viking. She attended elementary school in Viking and attended and graduated from high school in Warren. She attended Bemidji State Teacher's College, receiving her teaching degree. Anne taught at country schools in rural Viking for a number of years.

On May 28, 1932 she was united in marriage to Clarence L. Gustafson in Viking. The couple farmed in the Viking community from 1932 until 1940. They raised their family in and around the Viking area, and Anne continued to lived in Viking until the time of her death.

She was a member of the Viking Covenant Church and was active in various church groups. She enjoyed cooking, baking and spending time with family and friends.

Anne is survived by three sons, John (Leona) Gustafson of Viking, Larry (Carmen) Gustafson of Thief River Falls and Lewayne Gustafson of Wanamingo; two daughters, Arlene (Wallace) Hanson of Viking and Ione (Bill) Brinkman of Crookston; 16 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; one brother, Leonard Larson of Viking; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence on September 24, 1994; her parents; four brothers, Carl, Lester, Oscar and Alfred; and four sisters, Mae Osborne, Esther Tangquist, Helen Johnson and Hilda Larson.
