
Brainerd - Elizabeth Gust, 102, died Thursday, April 30, 1998 at Brainerd.
Funeral services were held on Monday, May 4 at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Benwood with Father Ray Palcisko officiating. Joy Gust and Kathy Schafer were the vocalist, and Joy Gust was the organist. Reader was Travis Pearson. Larry and Priscilla Gust were the eucharistic ministers. Giftbearers were Joe and Tony Gust, and Chris and Pat Gust were the servers. Casketbearers were Willard Kaml, Ervin Gust, Darrel Praska, Jason Gust, Alfred Praska Jr. and Steve Gust. Interment was in the Gust Cemetery in Strathcona. The Collins Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Elizabeth Caroline Joan Puttbrese was born on February 18, 1896 at Woodstock, IL, the daughter of William and Caroline (Bentow) Puttbrese. As a child she moved with her family to the Benwood community near Strathcona where she attended school and grew to womanhood. She was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic faith.
On November 25, 1912, Lizzie was united in marriage to Anton A. Gust at Roseau. The couple homesteaded in Poplar Grove township in Roseau county near Strathcona and farmed there for many years. She was a long-time member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church of Benwood. Lizzie contined to make her home on the farm after Anton passed away on February 18, 1986. For the past six years, she has resided with her daughter Rose and family at Brainerd.
She is survived by two daughters, Helen (Steve) Kaml of Greenbush and Rose (Jim) Ranney at Brainerd; one son, John of Strathcona; 29 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren; great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, four sons and four daughters.
