
Fertile - Maurice Gulseth, 80, died Thursday, December 23, 1999 at his home at rural Fertile.
A memorial service was held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, December 28 at the Fertile Community Center in Fertile.
Maurice Clifford Gulseth was born on September 27, 1919 at Crookston, the son of Martin and Christina (Christianson) Gulseth. He grew up at Eldred and attended rural schools at St. Hilaire and Crookston.
He was united in marriage to Eloise M. Peltier on October 13, 1940 at her parents home in Crookston. The couple lived in Crookston, and Maurice worked on an area farm. They then moved to Nevada where they lived for a short time, and Maurice worked in an ammunition factory. Following the death of his father, the family moved to the Red Lake Falls area, and he took over the family farm.
Maurice served stateside with the U.S. Army from 1944 to 1945. Following his discharge the family lived at Crookston where he was employed by an implement company. In 1956 they moved to Fertile where he worked on road construction. He later joined Boilermakers Union 647 and worked with it until his retirement.
He enjoyed sharing his capabilities as a welder with family and friends.
Survivors include his wife, Eloise; one son, Darrell (Roz) Gulseth of Twin Valley; four daughters, Sharon Gulseth of Twin Valley, Laurie Candee and Caralyn Gulseth, both of Willits, CA, and Joy (Steve) Riddle of Thief River Falls; 20 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one sister, Evelyn Lyngholm of Crookston; one brother, Orville (Frieda) Gulseth of Minneapolis; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by three sons, David Gulseth and twin sons, one who was stillborn and the other who died shortly after birth; his parents; two grandchildren; one brother, Leslie Gulseth; and one sister Alyce Wagner.
