Cora Grendahl, 85

Thief River Falls - Cora Grendahl, 85, died on Wednesday, May 7 at the Broen Memorial Home in Fergus Falls, MN.

Funeral services were held on Sunday, May 12 at 2 p.m. in the Green Funeral Home Chapel in Thief River Falls with Rev. C. L. Kalmoe officiating. Grace Hammer was the organist and soloist singing "Amazing Grace" and "Precious Lord Take My Hand". Congregational hymns were "Beautiful Savior" and "The Lord is my Shepherd". Casketbearers were Neil Nelson, Arnold Narverud, Larry Nelson, Robert Nygaard, Donald Aaseth and Wilbert Seibel. Burial was in the Greenwood Cemetery in Thief River Falls.

Visitation was on Sunday from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Green Funeral Home and on Monday from 8 a.m. until the time of the service.

Cora Viola Horton was born December 23, l911 at Voltaire, ND to the late Charles and Mary (Garfve) Horton. She grew up in Voltaire and graduated from Jr. high school there. In l930, she graduated from the State Agricultural High School in Velva, ND. She then moved to Thief River Falls and studied nursing at the Physicians' Hospital and worded at the Lynde-Starkow Clinic. She recieved her LPN nursing degree in l972. Cora had also worked for many years at the Mercy and Northwestern Hospitals in Thief River Falls, retiring in l978.

She was united in marriage to Andrew Grendahl on September 5, l937 at Holt. The couple made their home in Thief River Falls. He died on May 29, l971. Cora continued to live in Thief River Falls until l987 when she moved to Fergus Falls.

Cora was baptized and confirmed in the Christian Faith and was a longtime member of Zion Lutheran Church where she was very active.

She is survived by two children, Carol Nygaard and husband Conley of Fergus Falls and James Grendahl and wife Wanda of Spokane, WA; seven grandchildren, Grant, Lance, Kurt and Connie Nygaard, Jeff, Clifford and Clarence Grendahl; ten great-grandchildren; one sister, Mae Lindlauf and her husband Walter of Spokane, WA; one aunt, Gladys Garfve of Newfolden, MN; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her husband; two brothers, Orville and Clifford Horton; and four sisters, Fern Horton, Mabel Aaseth, Selma Tunheim, Alice Nelson; three nephews and one niece.
