Irene Green, 68

Thief River Falls - Irene Green, 68, died Saturday, March 28, 1998 at Valley Home in Thief River Falls.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, March 31 at 2 p.m. at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls with Reverend Galen Sylvester officiating. Joyce Halbasch was the organist, and Lois Erickson was the vocalist. A special poem was read by her daughter, Laurie Green. Casketbearers were John Green Jr., Paul Green, Chad Green, Christopher Green, Brian Green and John Olson. Honorary casketbearers were her other grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Burial was in First Lutheran Cemetery in Middle River. The Green Funeral Home of Thief River Falls was in charge of the arrangements.

Irene Arlene Sterger was born on July 10, 1929 at Fisher, the daughter of Henry and Johanna (Butenhoff) Sterger. She grew up and attended school in Fisher and Crookston.

On March 18, 1947 she was united in marriage to Elmer E. Green Sr. at Bemidji. The couple lived in Crookston and Middle River before moving to Thief River Falls in 1957 where she has since lived. For the past few weeks, Irene was a resident at Valley Home.

She was a member of the Friendship Club and the CSP group. She enjoyed doing craft work, knitting, playing bingo and going places.

Irene is survived by her six children, Mary Lou Larson and Laurie (fiance Mike Sauve) Green of Thief River Falls, Clara (James) Nelson and Lois (Lloyd) Erickson of Park Rapids, and John and Harold (Midge) Green of Thief River Falls; three step children, Marlene (Dwaine) Jolliff of Fenton, MO William (Kay) Green of St. Paul and Elmer Green Jr. of Crookston; 24 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Myrtle (Roy) Scully of Fertile, Anne Montoya of San Diego, CA and Linda (Michael) Brule of Council Bluffs, IA.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer on April 9, 1979; one daughter, Joy Lynn Green; three sons, Daniel, Charles and Henry Green; one grandson, James Richardson Jr.; and three brothers, Edward, Gerald and Harold.
