
Thief River Falls - Edith Greelis, 82, died Monday, June 28, 1999 at Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, July 2 at St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Thief River Falls with Father Tim Bushy presiding.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. with a 7 p.m. prayer service on Thursday, July 1 at Green Funeral Home in Thief River Falls and for one hour prior to services at the church on Friday.
Visitation will also be held from 10 a.m. until noon on Saturday, July 3 at Swanson-Peterson Funeral Home in Howard Lake. Burial will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday at St. Mary's Cemetery in Waverly with Father Shellbetter presiding.
Edith Rose Hancock was born on February 21, 1917 in Coleraine, the the daughter of John and Grace (Carpenter) Hancock. She grew up and attended school in Coleraine and went on to attend nursing school in Grand Rapids where she worked as a nurse. Edith became a licensed vocational nurse and worked at the hospital in Cokato for a short time.
On August 1, 1940 she married Vincent Greelis in Waterloo, IA. The couple made their home in Howard Lake from 1940 until 1960 where Vincent owned and operated the mortuary and furniture store known as Greelis Funeral Home and Furniture.
In 1960 the couple moved to St. Paul where they owned and operated Midway Industrial Bowl. In 1968 they retired and returned to Howard Lake. They moved to Thief River Falls in 1994.
Edith was a member of the Howard Lake Golf Club and St. Mary's Church Women's Circle in Waverly. She was also a member of St. Bernard's Catholic Church.
She especially enjoyed playing bridge with the ladies at the American Legion and golf club.
Edith is survived by one daughter, Linda (Richard) Gemoets of Santa Cruz, CA; one son, Tom (Paula) Greelis of Thief River Falls; two sisters, Maxine (Ilo) Mostoller of Jamestown, ND and Neysa (Woodrow) Cook of Lake Almador Peninsula, CA; and seven grandchildren.
She was preceded by her parents; her husband, Vincent, on March 31, 1999; one brother, Harvey; and four sisters, Leila, Eileen, Aida and Faye. A00003B1999JN30
