
Roy Grandstrand, 50
Viking - Roy Grandstrand, 50, died Saturday, March 18, 2000 in Viking township near Viking.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m on Tuesday, March 21 at Zion Lutheran Church in Viking with Rev. Paul Chell officiating. Gloria Ness was the organist, and vocalists were Sheri Chell and Van Swanson. Casketbearers were Jim Amundgaard, Brad Grandstrand, Corey Grandstrand, Jason Grandstrand, Jeremy Grandstrand, Gary Hultgren and Lenny Lofstrom. Burial was in Viking Cemetery in Viking township of Marshall county. The Green Funeral Home of Thief River Falls was in charge of the arrangements.
Roy Douglas Grandstrand was born on January 18, 1950 in Warren, the son of Melvin and Irene (Lindstrom) Grandstrand. He was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Viking. He grew up and attended school in Viking and Newfolden, graduating in 1968.
In 1969, he was united in marriage to Dorothy Lofstrom at Strandquist. The couple lived in Viking where Roy drove school bus and milk truck. They then moved to Maple Plain where he worked at the sanitation department and Spencrete, Inc., hauling cement. When they returned to Viking, Roy began to farm and raise dairy cattle.
He enjoyed sports, especially hunting and fishing, and woodworking, making picture frames, cabinets and furniture. He also liked to tinker with old machinery and built his own saw mill.
Roy is survived by his parents; two sons, Dean (Patti) Grandstrand of Paynesville and Earl Grandstrand of St. Cloud; one sister, Barbara (Ward) Sinn of Thief River Falls; two brothers, Rodney (Carolyn) Grandstrand of Maple Plain and Keith Grandstrand of Coon Rapids; and three grandchildren.
