Goodridge - Bernice Grabowska, 73, died Friday, June 11, 1999 at Oakland Park Nursing Home in Thief River Falls.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. on Mon-day, June 14 at Ekelund Luth -eran Church in Goodridge with Reverend Robert Dahlen officiating. Marian Marquis was the organist, and the soloist was Brian Grabowska. Bernice's grandchildren were the casketbearers. Burial was in Ekelund Cemetery in Highlanding township of Pennington county. The Green Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Bernice Helen Race was born on May 5, 1926 in Thief River Falls, the daughter of Jerry and Tillie (Thompson) Race. She was baptized and confirmed at Rosendahl Lutheran Church. She grew up in the Goodridge area, attending school there and graduating from Goodridge High School in 1944. Following graduation she moved to Anoka to work.
On September 7, 1946 she was united in marriage to Albert Grabowska at Anoka. The couple made their home there for four years and in 1951 moved to Goodridge where they have since lived and farmed. Albert and Bernice celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary at Third Base in Brooks in 1996.
Bernice was a member of Ekelund Lutheran Church were she taught Sunday school and was a former president of the Ladies Aid. After she and Albert retired from dairy farming, Bernice began working at the Goodridge School.
She loved reading novels, working in her garden and taking long walks. She also enjoyed making and painting ceramics and especially spending time with her family.
Bernice is survived by her husband, Albert; one daughter, Shirley (Steve) Holte of Grygla; four sons, Gerald (Helen) of Pembina, ND, Larry (Pat) of Stephen, Don (Julie) of Goodridge and Mark (Jeannine) of Oakdale; 16 grandchildren; one great grandchild; two brothers, Bud (Junes) Race of and Loren (Ardis) Race, both of Goodridge; and one sister, Edna Omlid of Goodridge.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother-in-law.
