
Thief River Falls - Adeline Grabanski, 78, died Thursday, October 30, 1997 at her home in Thief River Falls.
Mass of Christian Burial was held Tuesday, November 4 at St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Thief River Falls with Father Dennis Wieland presiding. Kristi LaSalle was the organist. Vocal music was provided by soloist Cathy Erickson and the Resurrection Choir. Judy Melby was the cantor. Casketbearers were Nina Berry, Alese Eichorn, Amber Eichorn, Kimberly Maas, Rina Martin, Marcy Mickelson, Bruce Eichorn, Dana Martin, Mark Reierson, Marty Reierson, Billy Rude and Timothy Rude. Burial was at Calvary Cemetery in Grand Forks, ND. The Green Funeral Home of Thief River Falls was in charge of the arrangements.
Adeline Ann Kosmatka was born February 14, 1919 in Pulaski township of Walsh County, North Dakota, the daughter of Joseph and Mary (Daucsavage) Kosmatka. She was baptized at St. Stanislaw Catholic Church in Warsaw, ND and later confirmed her faith there. Adeline attended rural schools and convent school in Warsaw. She worked with her family on the family farm.
On September 29, 1937 Adeline was united in marriage to Sylvester Granbanski at St. Stanislaw Catholic Church in Warsaw. The couple lived and farmed near Warsaw until 1949 when they moved with their family to Grand Forks, ND. She worked at the head bolt factory and also did waitress work. In 1952 they moved to Holt and in 1956 to the Iron Range. In 1965 they moved into Hibbing where Adeline and Sylvester operated several area lounges. They moved to Thief River Falls two months ago.
Adeline enjoyed sewing, quilting, ceramics, baking and being with her family. She was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Hibbing.
Adeline is survived by her husband Sylvester; three daughters, Jeanette (Clifford) Reierson of Holt, Phyllis (James) Martin of Shoreview and Rose Mary Eichorn of Hibbing; Bruce Eichorn of Hibbing; special friend, Tomiko Brklich of Hibbing; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Isabelle Klava of Minto, ND, Marion (Dallas) Bancroft of Lakeland, FL and Bernice (Bill) Hallern of Grand Forks, ND; two brothers, Johnnie (Madelyn) Kosmatka of Medford, OR and Florian (Lorraine) Kosmatka of Grand Forks, ND; one sister-in-law, Rose Kosmatka of Grafton, ND; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her daughter and son-in-law, Audrey and Ernie Rude; infant daughter Sylvia; one son, Carmen Grabanski; one granddaughter, Jill Rude; one infant grandson, Luke Reierson; parents; three sisters, Frances Knutson, Regina Clingman and Dominica Lealos; and eight brothers, Casmir "Charlie" Kosmatka, Raymond Kosmatka, Dominic Kosmatka, Barney Kosmatka, Ambrose Kosmatka, John Kosmatka, Frank Kosmatka and Joe Kosmatka.
