Greenbush - Alex Gonshorowski, 92, died Saturday, February 6, 1999 in Moorhead.
Mass of Christian Burial was held at 5 p.m. on Sunday, February 7 at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Leo with Father Don Braukmann officiating. Annie Mooney and Monica Swedmark were the Eucharistic ministers and offered meditation. Mitch Walski was the organist, and Debbie Gonshorowski presented a flute solo. Roman Gonshorowski was the reader. Gabriel Mooney was the server, and Michael, Raphael and Gabriel Gonshorowski were the giftbearers.
Casketbearers were Dan Gonshorowski, Wayne Mooney, Steve Nelson, Neal Swedmark, Scott Mooney, Shawn Himmelberger, Adian Vornbrock and Damian Gonshorowski. Interment was in St. Aloysius Catholic Cemetery in Leo. The Collins Funeral Home of Greenbush was in charge of the arrangements.
Alex Joseph Gonshorowski was born on December 10, 1906 at Leo, near Greenbush, the son of Michael and Mary (Kosmatka) Gonshorowski. He attended school and grew up there. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Aloysius Catholic Church.
On June 14, 1939 he was united in marriage to Emelia Sikorski at Greenbush. The couple lived and farmed in Polonia township of Roseau county near Greenbush. After Emelia died on September 12, 1973, Alex continued to make his home on the farm until 1978. Over the years he lived with his children and also lived in Bemidji for 10 years. For the past five years, he has made his home in the Moorhead area.
He was a life-long member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church and served on the Polonia township board for several years.
Alex is survived by four sons, Michael (Su) of Moorhead, Raphael (Linda) of Washington, IA, Gabriel (Debora) of Moorhead, and Roman of Ashland, WI; six daughters, Marilyn (Jim) Russell of Virginia Beach, VA, Deanne (Allen) Carmon of Land O'Lakes, FL, Colette (Ronnie) Mooney of Greenbush, Donna (Ron) Wilcox of Hibbing, Doris (Al) Swedmark of Bemidji, and Regina (Mark) Kienzle of Dallas, TX; 38 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one sister, Regina Troskey of Milwaukee, WI; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; one son, Alex Jr. in infancy; and one daughter, Jeanette in 1986.
