
Thief River Falls - Frieda Goetz, 99, died Sunday, October 29, 2000 at Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls.
Funeral services
will be held at 2
p.m. on Thursday,
November 2, at Green Funeral Home in Thief River Falls with Rev. John
Wollenzien officiating. Lois Peterson will be the organist, and vocal
music will be provided by Lois Anderson and Lois Peterson.
Casketbearers will be John M. Jorgensen, Tony Rice, Bob Poppenthien,
Adam Sherbrooke and Lyle Beck.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. today (Wednesday, November 1) at Green Funeral Home and also for one hour prior to services on Thursday.
Funeral services will also be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, November 4, at Egelhof, Siegert and Casper Funeral Home with Rev. John Jorgensen officiating. Interment will be in Linwood Cemetery in Dubuque, Iowa.
Frieda Amelia Eberl was born on September 9, 1901 at 817 Clark Drive in Dubuque, Iowa, the daughter of Anton and Christina (Kupferschmidt) Eberl. She was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church in Dubuque and attended school in Dubuque. Frieda worked in the infant department at Roshek Brothers Department Store in Dubuque for a number of years.
On June 15, 1937, Frieda was united in marriage to Rev. William F. Goetz Sr. at Wartburg Seminary Chapel. The couple lived mainly in Dubuque, Clinton and Tripoli where Rev. Goetz was pastor. In 1959, they returned to Dubuque where Frieda's husband was Archivist of the American Lutheran Church, his office located at Wartburg Seminary. William died on January 26, 1964. In 1984, Frieda moved to Mt. Pleasant Home in Dubuque, and in 1997, she moved to Thief River Falls to be near her daughter and son-in-law.
She was active at St. Peter's Lutheran Church and its women's group, the Dubuque County Mental Health Society, Finley Hospital Auxiliary and Luther Manor Auxiliary.
Frieda is survived by a daughter, Mary (Rev. John) Jorgensen of Middle River; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, William Jr.; her parents; three sisters, Alvina Eberl, Christine Berg and Lilly Fettkether; and two brothers, Anton and Edwin.
