Isabel Gibbs, 79

St. Hilaire - Isabel Gibbs, 79, died Friday, September 19, 1997 at Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls.

Memorial services will be held - today, Wednesday, September 24 at Calvary Lutheran Church of St. Hilaire with Reverend Terri Skidlum officiating. Special music will be provided by organist Deb Holmgren and soloist Penny Kruse, The Green Funeral Home of Thief River Falls is in charge of the arrangements.

Isabel Rosendahl was born February 3, 1918 at Thief River Falls, the daughter of Benjamin and Lillian (Johnson) Rosendahl. Isabel attended school and grew to adulthood in St. Hilaire.

On November 23, 1940 she was united in marriage to Francis Gibbs at Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. The couple made their home in Winnipeg while Frank served in the Canadian Air Force in various places in Canada. The couple moved to Whitehorse in the Yukon

Territories, and Isabel worked at Standard Oil until her daughter Michele was born. The family moved back to Winnipeg and lived there until moving to St. Hilaire in 1946. Frank enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1948 and Isabel made her home in St. Hilaire whenever she could not be with her husband at his assigned stations throughout the world. In 1958, their son Samuel was born in Spain. During these years Isabel participated in volunteer work with the Red Cross, Girl Scouts and Military Family Services.

In 1972, the couple made their permanent home in St. Hilaire where Isabel served as Justice of the Peace and married many couples. She also operated a doll hospital from her home and enjoyed plants, flowers, quilting, ceramics and other crafts.

Isabel is survived by her husband Francis of St. Hilaire; daughter Michele (Richard) Shea of Burlington, VT; son Samuel Gibbs of Grand Forks; four grandchildren; one brother, Robert (Bettie) Rosendahl of Springfield, MO; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister.
