Coeur d'Alene, Idaho - Conrad J. "Connie" Geston Jr., 76, died Thursday, May 25, 2000 at Veterans Medical Center in Spokane, Wash.
A memorial service was held at Yates Funeral Home, Coeur d'Alene chapel. Military honors followed at Forest Cemetery.
Conrad J. Geston Jr. was born on January 17, 1924 in Grafton, N.D., the son of Conrad J. and Theresa (Gagnon) Geston. He grew up in Thief River Falls, graduating from Lincoln High School in 1942.
Conrad served in the Army as a combat engineer in the South Pacific from 1943 until his discharge in 1946. He then returned to Fargo, N.D. where he attended North Dakota State University. In the early 1950s, he moved to Coeur d'Alene, Idaho where he was a member of Coeur d'Alene VFW Post 889 and a charter member of Hayden Lake Eagles 4080, Coeur d'Alene Elks 1254 and the military order of the Coeur d'Alene Cootie's 3. He spent 35 years as a bartender at several clubs in Spokane and Coeur d'Alene.
Conrad enjoyed traveling with his longtime companion, Alfreeda Hayes.
Survivors include his companion, Alfreeda Hayes of Coeur d'Alene; one son, Greg Geston of Stanwood, Wash.; three daughters, Brenda Fletcher of Sacramento, Calif., Vickie Geston of Walla Walla, Wash. and Kristi Geston of Spokane, Wash.; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and several cousins.
