- Janet Garthus, 54, died Tuesday, March 28, 2000 at her home in
Marshall county near Holt.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Friday, March 31 at Nazareth Lutheran Church in Holt with Rev. Jay Borchert officiating. Yvonne Larson was the organist, and soloists were Craig Swenson and Wendy Blazejewski. Casketbearers were Donna Odberg, Alfreda Bach, Pat Moen, Jeanette Reierson, Pat Kjensrud and Kathy Skalberg. Honorary casketbearers were Jan Moberg, Wanda Melvie, Lila Hjelle, Estelle Grinde, Virginia Krantz and Sharon Peterson. Burial was in the Holt Cemetery with the Green Funeral Home of Thief River Falls in charge of the arrangements.
Janet Marie Hestekind was born on February 27, 1946 in Thief River Falls, the daughter of George P. and Eveleth (Skadsem) Hestekind. She grew up in New Solum township and attended school in Holt. She graduated from Newfolden High School in 1964.
On September 5, 1964, Janet was united in marriage to Kenneth Garthus at Bethlehem Church in New Solum township. The couple made their home in Excel township, west of Holt. Janet worked on the assembly line at Arctic Cat for several years and later at Land O'Lakes. During this time, she and Kenneth farmed and milked cows. She later cleaned houses for the elderly for Tri-Valley and for the past few years had worked at Digi-Key.
Janet is survived by her husband, Kenneth; three sons, James (Karin) Garthus and Wayne (Danielle) Garthus, both of Newfolden, and Dean (Tracey) Garthus of Middle River; one daughter, Barb (Keith) Lorentzen of Goodridge; one brother, Gerald (Janice) Hestekind of Newfolden; and six grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Arly. A00003B2000AP05
