
Thief River Falls - Jack Garcia Jr., 50, died Saturday, October 23, 1999 at Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls.
A memorial services was held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, October 26 at St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Thief River Falls with Rev. Dennis Wieland officiating. Kristie LaSalle was the organist, and cantors were Gale and Morea Steinhauer. The Green Funeral Home of Thief River Falls was in charge of the arrangements.
Jack Manuel Garcia Jr. was born on January 28, 1949 in Cincinnati, OH, the son of Jack and Helen (Scherle) Garcia. He was baptized and confirmed at Holy Name Catholic Church and attended school in Cincinnati at Holy Cross Catholic School, St. Thomas More and McNicholas High School, graduating in 1967. Following school, Jack enlisted in the United States Air Force and was stationed in Spain for four years. He worked in medical supply, attained the rank of Sergeant and was honorably discharged in 1971.
In 1972, Jack moved to Minnesota and purchased a farm in New Folden township of Marshall county. On October 20, 1979 he was united in marriage to Marguerite Burda at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Middle River. He farmed until the time of his death and had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer three weeks ago.
Jack enjoyed taking photographs and spending time outdoors. He also enjoyed nature, all animals, feeding the birds, gardening and spending time with family and friends.
He served on the New Folden township board and was a member of St. Bernard's Catholic Church.
Jack is survived by his wife, Marguerite of Newfolden; parents, Jack Sr. and Helen Garcia of Cincinnati, OH; two brothers, Tom (Janet) Garcia and Gary (Sherry) Garcia, both of Cincinnati, OH; two sisters, Debbie (Scott) Eccard of Cincinnati, OH and Joanna (Rick) Dembowski of Northville, MI; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Rosalie and Frank Burda of Middle River; several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.
