
Bessie Fugleberg, 69
Roseau - Bessie Fugleberg, 69, died Saturday, August 19, 2000 at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, N.D.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, August 23, at Roseau United Methodist Church with Rev. Gary Liker officiating. Betty Hulst was the organist, and Dean Hedlund was the soloist. Casketbearers were Jack Stone, Jim Hanson, Sydney Skogstad, Patrick Moren, Bud Fugleberg and Rick Kvien. Interment was in Hope Cemetery in Roseau with Collins Funeral Home of Greenbush in charge of the arrangements.
Bessie May Buran was born on October 4, 1930 at Roseau, the daughter of Paul H. and Florence (Ripley) Buran. She grew up and attended school in Roseau and was raised in the Methodist faith. She graduated from Roseau High School in 1948.
On June 4, 1949, Bessie was united in marriage to Merlin L. Fugleberg at Roseau. She began her career working as clerk of the draft board and worked in the Register of Deeds office before becoming County Recorder, a position she held for 20 years. After Merlin died on January 30, 1968, Bessie continued to make her home in Roseau.
She was a life-long member of Roseau United Methodist Church and the Roseau American Legion Auxiliary for many years. She enjoyed sewing and British comedies.
Bessie is survived by four sons, Peter and John, both of Roseau, Glen (Mary) of St. Cloud and Carl (Debra) of Byron; one daughter, Robin (Bob) Heinle of Farmington; nine grandchildren; one sister, Donna (Bill) Wondra of Shoreview; two brothers, Tom (Dorothy) of Rochester Hills, Mich. and Bill of Roseau; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; one sister, Gretchen; and four brothers, John, Paul J., George and Carl.
