R. Sheldon Frei, 72
Karlstad - R. Sheldon Frei, 72, died Friday, August 4, 2000 at Karlstad Memorial Nursing Center in Karlstad.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. on Monday, August 7, at Karlstad Baptist Church in Karlstad with Rev. Gary Gutknecht officiating. Becky Gutknecht was the organist, and the soloist was Richard Anderson. Casketbearers were Richard Anderson, Russell Grandstrand, Gale Frei, Randall Barth, Samuel Grandstrand and David Magnuson. Interment was in Karlstad Cemetery. Collins Funeral Home of Karlstad was in charge of the arrangements.
Robert Sheldon Frei was born on July 28, 1928 in Augsburg township of Marshall county, the son of Peter L. and Minnie (Benson) Frei. He grew up and attended school in Augsburg township near Stephen.
On June 10, 1950, Sheldon was united in marriage to Rose Peterson at Karlstad. The couple farmed in Augsburg township, raising beef cattle and selling produce locally. After Rose died on September 6, 1994, Sheldon moved into Karlstad.
On September 14, 1996, Sheldon married Lorraine Setten at Dundee. The couple lived in Strandquist and Yuma, Ariz. Lorraine died on September 14, 1997, and since March of 1999, Sheldon had resided at Karlstad Memorial Nursing Center.
He was an active member of Karlstad Baptist Church, serving on its church council.
Sheldon is survived by two daughters, Peggy-Jo (David) Magnuson of South Haven, Mich. and Patti-Ann (Randy) Barth of Thief River Falls; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three sisters, Alice Anderson of Warren, Anna Setten of Karlstad and Lillian Lay of Sherwood, Ore.; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wives; one son, Peter in 1976; four brothers, Paul, Art, Vernon and Phillip; and one sister, Vivian in infancy.
