Mildred L. Franson, 92

Carlton - Mildred L. Franson, 92, died Tuesday, February 3, 1998 at Birchview Acres in Wrenshall.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. on Friday, February 6 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Cloquet with Pastor David Ziemer officiating. Organist was Marilyn Jaeger, and Jim Sheetz was the soloist. Casketbearers were Larry Pank, Monica Eldien, Jeff Gookins and Chris Sandstrom. Burial will be at Hillside Cemetery in Carlton in the spring. The Wefelmeyer Funeral Home of Cloquet was in charge of the arrangements.

Mildred L. Loftness was born in Marshall County near Thief River Falls to Andrew and Palma Loftness on July 8, 1905. She graduated from Lincoln High School in Thief River Falls and attended Bemidji State College.

After many years of teaching elementary school, Mildred married Carl T. Franson, a depot agent at Karlstad. Carl died in 1941. She then moved to Minneapolis where she attended the University of Minnesota. For 20 years, she was employed by Victor Carlson & Sons as the accountant and office manager. In 1974, she moved to Moorhead and was employed at Trinity Lutheran Church as financial secretary, a position she held until retirement. In 1993, she moved to Carlton and resided there until the time of her death.

Mildred is survived by one step daughter, Maxine (Les) Leonardson of St. Paul; two step grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three sisters, Elvina Loftness of St. Paul, Viola Loftness O'Day of Moorhead and Bernice Ostrom of Carlton; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Franson; parents; and one brother, Einar Loftness.
