
Karlstad - Freda Fossell, 90, died Sunday, September 19, 1999 at Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 23 at the Evangelical Mission Covenant Church in Kennedy with Rev. Steve Thompson officiating. Patti Swanson was the organist, and vocal music was provided by Lyndon Johnson. Casketbearers were Duaine Fossell, LeRoy Turn, Merle Nelson, Evans Anderson, Billie Nelson and Marlin Spangrud. Interment was in Jupiter Mission Cemetery in Kennedy. The Collins Funeral Home of Karlstad was in charge of the arrangements.
Freda Albertine Fossell was born on January 15, 1909 in Springbrook township of Kittson county near Karlstad, the daughter of Hans and Tobine (Anderson) Bogestad. She grew up and attended school near Karlstad and was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith.
On December 29, 1934, she was united in marriage to Roy Fossell at Teien Covenant Church near Drayton. Following their marriage, the couple made their home in Humboldt, Kennedy, Hallock and Karlstad before moving to their farm in Jupiter township where they resided for 51 years. In 1992, they moved into Karlstad where they have since made their home.
Freda was an active long-time member of Evangelical Mission Covenant Church of Kennedy.
She was also a member of the Jupiter Harmony Homemakers Club and sold Fuller Brush products for 25 years.
Freda is survived by her husband, Roy; one son, Ron (Lana) of Kennedy; two daughters, Judy (Jude) Gardner of Omaha, NE and Janice (Bruce) Gilbertson of Birchwood; two grandchildren; one sister, Iolet Peterson of Karlstad; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Jean in 1998; two infant sons; four brothers, John, Albin, Norman and Spener; and two sisters, Inga and Myrtle.
