Clarence Forsman, 78

Aitkin - Clarence W. Forsman, 78, died Saturday, May 1, 1999 at his home in Aitkin.

Funeral services will be held today (Wednesday, May 5) at 11 a.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church in Aitkin with Pastor David Becker officiating. Interment will be in Fort Snelling National Cemetery. The Sorensen-Root-Thompson Funeral Home of Aitkin is in charge of the arrangements.

Clarence W. Forsman was born on July 20, 1920 in Crosby, the son of John and Mary (Jangala) Forsman. As a young boy he moved with his family to Bennettvile where he attended school.

On July 30, 1941 he married Evelyn Geisler at St. John's Lutheran Church in Aitkin. Clarence enlisted in the U.S. Army and served with the 353rd Anti-aircraft Artillery, Battery A Searchlight Battalion. He spent most of his service time in the European Theater and received the European-African service medal and Good Conduct medal.

After returning from the service he worked for Hayden Motor Co. and Ed Wold as a mechanic. Later Clarence worked as a route man for Zinsmater Bread Co. and a mechanic for Metz Baking Co. He also worked as a volunteer at Lutheran Island Camp at Henning for a number of years. Clarence and Evelyn moved back to Aitkin several years ago when they retired.

He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church of Aitkin.

Survivors include his wife, Evelyn; one brother, Al of St. Paul and several nieces and nephews.
