
Red Lake Falls - Kris Fontaine, 31, died Sunday, December 19, 1999 as the result of a automobile accident near Red Lake Falls.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 23 at 11 a.m. at Bethany Lutheran Church in Red Lake Falls with Rev. Gary Graff officiating. Dawn Halvorson will be the organist, and special music will be provided by the Community Choir. Casketbearers will be Kip Fontaine, Karl Fontaine, Kraig Fontaine, Kirk Fontaine, Brian Wavra, Rusty Bohn and Brett Magner. Burial will take place at 3 p.m. on Thursday, December 23 at Rodnes Cemetery near Erskine.
Visitation will be held today (Wednesday, December 22) from 5 to 8 p.m. with a 7 p.m. prayer service at Bethany Lutheran Church. Visitation will also be held for one hour prior to services on Thursday. The Petterson Funeral Home of Red Lake Falls is in charge of the arrangements.
Kris Ardell Fontaine was born on August 4, 1968 in Red Lake Falls, the son of Keith and Sandra (Ulland) Fontaine. He was raised in Red Lake Falls and attended school there, graduating from Lafayette High School in 1987. He was baptized on September 29, 1968 and confirmed on May 26, 1985 at Bethany Lutheran Church in Red Lake Falls.
He was employed as transportation supervisor for Red Lake Falls School District 630 and spent his summers at Ullands' Resort on Maple Lake. Kris was a former Oak Knolls Golf Course club champion, the assistant Lafayette High School hockey coach, the assistant Lafayette High School golf coach and a former Bantam hockey coach.
He enjoyed golf, hockey, his time at the lake and spending time with his nieces and nephews.
Kris is survived by his parents, Keith and Sandra Fontaine of Red Lake Falls; special friend Shelley Magner of Red Lake Falls; Shelley's children, Brett and Jenelle Magner and son Chase of St. Cloud, Melissa Magner and son Judd of Red Lake Falls, and Amanda Magner of Red Lake Falls; four brothers, Kip (Sheila) Fontaine of Bagley, Karl (Laurie) Fontaine of Phoenix, AZ, and Kraig Fontaine and Kirk Fontaine, both of Sturgis, MI; sister, Kelly (Brian) Fontaine-Wavra of Grand Forks, ND; grandparents, Orville and Clarice Ulland of Mentor; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Isadore and Freida Fontaine. A00003B1999DC22
