
Thief River Falls - Myrtle Flowers, 90, died on Thursday, February 4, 1999 at the CNC unit of Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, February 7 at the Green Funeral Home Chapel in Thief River Falls with Reverend Henry Moyer officiating. Special music was provided by Grace Hammer. Burial was in Mamrelund Cemetery in Lincoln township of Marshall county.
Myrtle E. Barstad was born on April 30, 1908 in Moorhead, the daughter of Lars and Mary (Holmstrom) Barstad. She was baptized and confirmed at Mamrelund Lutheran Church near Strandquist. She attended country school near Strandquist and also attended school in Virginia.
Myrtle was employed at the Phoenix Stocking Factory, the Cream City Art Company in Milwaukee, WI and also at Courthouse Pharmacy in Minneapolis.
On December 20, 1931 she was united in marriage to Conrad Wigen at Englund, near Strandquist. The couple farmed in West Valley township in Marshall county.
Myrtle later married James Flowers on July 3, 1948 in Minneapolis. James died in 1983.
She devoted many years to volunteering for the senior meal program and activity programs at Northwest Medical Center and Heritage Community Center in Thief River Falls. Myrtle enjoyed embroidery, nature and visiting relatives and friends in Strandquist. She especially enjoyed her family.
Myrtle is survived by two daughters, Annette Wigen Boe of Warroad and Yvonne Wigen McHam of Thief River Falls; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one son, Earl Wigen in 1945, an infant daughter, a great-grandson, her husbands, parents, and one brother, Evald Barstad.
