Emma K. Flathaug, 92

Karlstad - Emma K. Flathaug, 92, died Sunday, November 9, 1997 at the Karlstad Memorial Nursing Home.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. on Friday, November 14 at Bethel Lutheran Church in Karlstad with Pastors Mary Carol and Cordell Strug officiating. Lenore Olson was the organist, and Vangie Carlson was the soloist. Casketbearers were Daniel Britten, Melissa Britten, Mindy Britten, Jonathon Miller, Michell Borneman, Matthew Miller, Todd Sundby and Jennifer Wohler. Honorary casketbearers were Emma's "other kids"&endash; Stephanie, Karl Jon, Greg, Erich, Xan, Kim, David, Cindy, Donnie and Ronnie. Interment was at the Karlstad Cemetery. The Collins Funeral Home of Karlstad was in charge of the arrangements.

Emma Katherine Danielson was born February 4, 1905 at Duluth, the daughter of Carl and Elizabeth (Stephanson) Danielson. She attended school and grew to womanhood in the Fertile and Duluth communities and was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith.

On November 26, 1936 Emma was united in marriage to Harold Flathaug at Baudette. Following her marriage the couple made their home in Arveson township of Kittson County near Karlstad until 1941 when they moved into Karlstad. For many years, Emma was employed as a nurse's aid at the Karlstad Hospital, and later she babysat for many children in her home. Harold passed away on October 11, 1984, and Emma continued to make her home in Karlstad. Since May of l991 she has resided at the Karlstad Memorial Nursing Home.

Emma was a long-time member of Bethel Lutheran Church and was active in the ladies aid. She was also a member of the Karlstad American Legion Auxiliary and the Karlstad Memorial Hospital Guild.

Emma is survived by three daughters, Elizabeth Flathaug of Phoenix, AZ, Patricia (ElRoy) Britten of Roseau and Kathryn (Robert) Miller of Anoka; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one sister, Genevieve Wolfgram of Largo, FL; one sister-in-law, Ada Danielson of Maplewood; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; one brother, Carl; and five sisters, Thelma, Hildegard, Esther, Eleanor and Violet.
