Paul R. Flaten, 52

Indiahoma, OK - Paul R. Flaten, 52, formerly of Greenbush, died Thursday, May 7, 1998 in Indiahoma, OK.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 14 at the Bethel Lutheran Church in Greenbush with Pastor Ernie Christensen officiating. Joan Haugen was the organist, and Marie Olson was the soloist. Military honors were accorded by Moen-Zimek American Legion Post 88 of Greenbush. Burial was in Poplar Grove Cemetery, rural Strathcona. The Gieseke Funeral Home of Greenbush was in charge of the arrangements.

Paul R. Flaten was born on April 20, 1946 in Thief River Falls, the son of Ralph and Gertrude (Reierson) Flaten. He was baptized at Poplar Grove Lutheran Church, rural Strathcona, and confirmed at Bethel Lutheran Church in Greenbush. He grew up on a farm in the Strathcona area and graduated from Greenbush High School in 1964. Paul entered the U.S. Army and served for two years in Vietnam. He graduated from Bemidji State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in industrial arts and taught school in Watertown, Minneapolis and Badger. Paul was active in the U.S. Army Reserve and received training in electronics at Fort Belvoir, VA. He was also stationed at Fort Campbell, KY.

On December 31, 1970 he was united in marriage to Patricia Turek in California. The couple lived in many locations, including Greenbush and Thief River Falls, before moving to Oklahoma four years ago.

Paul is survived by his wife, Patricia of Indiahoma, OK; one son Peter (Dee) Flaten of Raleigh, NC; one daughter, Phaedra Thomas of Indiahoma, OK; one granddaughter; his mother, Gertrude Flaten of Greenbush; one sister, Marlene (Herbert) Reese of Casa Grande, AZ; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his father, Ralph, and one brother, Gary.
