
Greenbush - Michael Flaten, 50, died Friday, July 28, 2000 at Roseau Area Hospital in Roseau.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, August 1 at Bethel Lutheran Church in Greenbush with Rev. Ernie Christensen officiating. Joan Haugen was the organist, and the vocalist was Marie Olson. Casketbearers were Mitchell Peterson, Pat Lorenson, Marc Connelly, Vern Foss, Tom Hoverson and Emery Wicklander. Interment was in Poplar Grove Cemetery in Deer township of Roseau county near Strathcona. The Gieseke Funeral Chapel of Greenbush was in charge of the arrangements.
Michael Dean Flaten was born on August 14, 1949 at Greenbush, the son of Henry and Clara (Hontvet) Flaten. He grew up near Greenbush and was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. He graduated from Greenbush High School in 1967 and attended North Dakota State School of Science at Wahpeton. Michael worked at Polaris Industries at Roseau for a short while. He then farmed until 1993 when he returned to Polaris where he worked until the time of his death.
Michael enjoyed horses, hunting and riding motorcycles with his friends.
He was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Greenbush, Northland Threshing Bee, and Borderland Chapter of A.B.A.T.E. He was currently serving as a Huss township supervisor and state fire warden.
Michael is survived by one son, Scott Flaten of Greenbush; one daughter, Heidi Flaten of New Milford, Conn.; special friend, Kathy Johnson of Thief River Falls; one brother, Wynn (Tara) Flaten of Manila, Philippines; and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents and several aunts and uncles. A00003B2000AG02
