Mancer Flaten, 87

Waseca - Mancer C. Flaten, 87, formerly of Greenbush, died Sunday, April 16, 2000 at Waseca Medical Center in Waseca.

Funeral services were held at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, April 19, at Bethel Lutheran Church in Greenbush with Rev. Ernie Christensen officiating. Joan Haugen was the organist. Casketbearers were Shawn Haugen, Jerry Scott, Rhett Haugen, Carlton Flaten, Ted Westlund, Dennis Olson, Herb Reese and Armand Westlund. Interment was in Poplar Grove Cemetery near Strandquist with the Gieseke Funeral Chapel of Greenbush in charge of the arrangements.

Mancer C. Flaten was born on September 14, 1912 in Portland, ND, the son of Theodore and Minnie (Sather) Flaten. He attended the agricultural college in Park River, ND.

On June 14, 1939, he married Nora Celia Gjovik at Strathcona. The couple farmed for many years in Huss township between Greenbush and Strathcona. Mancer also worked on road construction for several years.

Prior to moving to Waseca in 1995, he was active in Bethel Lutheran Church. Nora died on November 7, 1996.

Mancer is survived by one son, David; two daughters, Karen and Maryl (Neal J.) Scott of New Richland; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and one brother, Reuben (Christine) of Greenbush.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Sheldon; three brothers, Ralph, Guy and Henry Flaten; and three sisters, Thilda and Mabel Flaten and Florence Westlund. A00003B2000AP26
