Verna Fischer, 93

Thief River Falls - Verna Marie Fischer, 93, died Saturday, September 16, 2000 at Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. today (Wednesday, September 20) at Green Funeral Home in Thief River Falls with Rev. Dan Horn officiating. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until the time of services.

Verna Marie Lockwood was born on August 26, 1907 in Motley, the daughter of Verne and Ina (Snoke) Lockwood. She grew up in Motley, graduating from Motley High School in 1925. She then attended and graduated from St. Cloud State Teachers College in 1927. For several years, she taught elementary grades in Minnesota.

On February 3, 1939, Verna was united in marriage to Walter Fischer. The couple moved to Thief River Falls in 1952 when Walter began working for Bridgeman Creameries.

Verna was a member of the United Methodist Church in Thief River Falls, United Methodist Circles and Campanula Garden Club.

Survivors include a son, Pat (Kay) Fischer of Thief River Falls; a granddaughter; two great-grandchildren; a sister, Gladys (Walter) Lucas of Albany, Ore; and a nephew.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and two brothers, Paul and Stanley Lockwood.
