Thief River Falls - Elmer Eychaner, 55, died Saturday, April 8, 2000 at Oakland Park Nursing Home in Thief River Falls.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, April 13, at the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Thief River Falls with Marcus Mun-dall officiating. Grace Hammer will be the organist and soloist. Casketbearers will be Jim Cox, Terry Anderson, John Klassen, Howard Sjulstad, David Sjulstad and Edward Sjulstad.

Visitation will be held today (Wednesday, April 12) from 4 to 8 p.m. with a 7 p.m. prayer service at Green Funeral Home in Thief River Falls.

Elmer Lee Eychaner was born on September 1, 1944 in Portland, OR, the son of Elmer and Hesther (Shockley) Eychaner. He grew up and attended school in Bremerton, WA. He parents were welders at the Navy shipyard in Seattle, sparking Elmer's interest in welding. Elmer attended welding school in Thief River Falls and became a welder for the Fargo Foundry, Haybusters Manufacturing in La Moure, ND and Hydra-Mac in Thief River Falls. He also drove truck for Bagley Trucking, Manderud Brothers of Goodridge and Bruce Haugen of Badger. For the last six years, he was a welder for Arctic Cat.

On November 16, 1968, Elmer was united in marriage to Lynette Sjulstad at Ekelund Lutheran Church in Goodridge. The couple made their home in various places, including La Moure and Fargo, ND before settling down in Thief River Falls.

During his school days, he collected model cars and was very active in 4-H. He enjoyed music, especially the oldies, walking, riding bike, sledding with his family, fishing and telling bedtime stories.

Elmer is survived by his wife; two daughters, Julene Simone Eychaner of Sabetha, KS and Vyetta Eychaner of Red Lake Falls; two sons, Anthony (Mary Ann) of Roseau and Elmer III of Virginia Beach, VA; his mother, Hesther Shockley of Castle Rock, WA; one sister, Martha (George) McLure of Castle Rock, WA; three brothers, James (Sherry) and Larry (Judy) of Castle Rock, WA, and Merle (Angela) of Virginia Beach, VA; and two grandchildren.
