Dayton, OH - Rev. Silas E. Erickson, 81, died Sunday, October 24, 1999 at Dayton, OH.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, October 28 at Calvary Lutheran Church, 7520 Golden Valley Rd., Golden Valley. Burial will be in Lakewood Cemetery in Minneapolis. Arrangements are with Washburn-McReavy, Welander, Quist, DuSchane Chapel.
Visitation will be held for two hours prior to services at the church.
Silas E. Erickson was born on December 28, 1917 in New Effington, SD, the son of Rev. Edward L. and Sena (Hanson) Erickson. He spent his early years in Hendricks and graduated from high school in Hayward, WI. He then graduated from Augsburg College and Seminary in Minneapolis and was ordained as a Lutheran minister on June 11, 1944.
Some of the parishes Rev. Erickson served included Rindel, Bethlehem, Satersdal and Reiner in the Thief River Falls area from 1944 to 1947 when he moved to Montevideo to serve Trinity Lutheran Church and St. Petre in Boyd and Stony River from 1947 until 1955. In 1955, he moved to the state of Washington where he served in Ellensburg until 1969 and then Everett from 1969 until 1982.
After retiring in 1983, Rev. Erickson went to Calvary Lutheran Church in Golden Valley where he served as visitation pastor until moving to Dayton, OH where he served as a part-time visitation pastor at Epiphany Lutheran Church until the time of his death.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Lois Morell Erickson; one daughter, Ruth (Neil) Sorum of Lebanon, OH; two grandchildren; one great-grandson; and several nephews and a niece.
He was preceded in death by his parents and four sisters, Lila Olson, Signe Orest, Verna Holland and Eunice Folkestad. A00003B1999OT27
