Fargo, ND - George Erickson, 79, formerly of Thief River Falls, died Friday, August 13, 1999 at Bethany Homes in Fargo, ND.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, August 16 at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls with Reverend Galen Sylvester officiating. Joyce Halbasch was the organist, and vocal music was provided by Genora Schjeldrup. Casketbearers were RoxAnne Nelson, Steve Erickson, Amy Donarski, Nathan Erickson, BethAnn Donarski, Matt Carlson, Coralie Carlson, Jill Kotta, Ben Kotta, Sara Dandeneau, Jessica Dandeneau, Byran Costilla and Erick Erickson. Military rites were accorded by the American Legion and VFW posts. Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery in Grand Forks, ND. The Green Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

George H. Erickson was born on May 10, 1920 in East Grand Forks, the son of Erick G. and Edith J. (Ahlgren) Erickson. He grew up in East Grand Forks where he attended school and graduated from high school. He attended the University of North Dakota for one year before joining the U.S. Army Air Corps, serving during World War II as a pilot.

On January 3, 1943 he was united in marriage to Evelyn Ulvedal at East Grand Forks. The couple moved to Grand Forks, ND where they lived until 1953 when they moved to Wyandotte township in Pennington county. George farmed and was an owner/operator of Erickson Construction Company. In 1944 he moved to Moorhead and entered Bethany Homes in 1997.

He was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church and Clara Church and was an active Luther League advisor for over 20 years. He was also a member of the Plummer American Legion and served on the Wyandotte township board. He especially enjoyed fishing.

George is survived by three daughters, Jan Donarski of Fargo, ND, JoEllen (Robert) Carlson of Moorhead and Julie (Arlen) Kotta of Comstock; three sons, John E. (Gloria) Erickson of Thief River Falls and James (Carla) Erickson and Jay (Robin) Erickson, both of Champlain; 16 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, parents and one brother, John Edward. A00003B1999AG18
