
Thief River Falls - Donald Erickson, 76, died Wednesday, December 6, 2000 at McIntosh Manor Nursing Home in McIntosh.
Funeral services were held at 9 a.m. on Saturday, December 9, at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls with Rev. Marcia Sylvester and Rev. Terri Cuppett officiating. Joyce Halbasch was the organist, and vocalists were Rev. Terri Cuppett and Chris Cuppett. Casketbearers were James Engelstad, Arnie Engelstad, Claire Larson, Kevin Erickson, Tom Peterson, Billy Peterson, Layton Oslund, Rolland Klamar, Paul Klamar, Mark Erickson, Steve Erickson and all who called Donald friend. Interment was in Clara Lutheran Church Cemetery in River Falls township of Pennington county with Green Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.
Donald Landis Erickson was born on January 6, 1924 in Gully in Polk county, the son of Elmer and Belle (Peterson) Erickson. He was baptized as an infant in the Christian faith and later confirmed in his faith at the same church. Donald moved with his family from McIntosh to a farm near Hazel where he grew up and attended District 6 rural school. He attended St. Hilaire High School, graduating in 1941.
Donald and his brother, Wallace, farmed. He also spent some time working at the South St. Paul Packing Plant. He entered the Civilian Conservation Corps and worked near Middle River. Donald returned to Hazel and farmed in Wyandotte township. After retirement, he sold his dairy herd but continued to make his home on the farm until 1995 when he moved to Thief River Falls. He recently moved to McIntosh Manor in McIntosh.
Donald was a former member of Clara Lutheran Church and was currently a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church. During his years of farming, he was active with the NFO.
Survivors include two brothers, Robert of Minneapolis and Wayne (Sandra) of Bedford, Texas; an aunt; two sisters-in-law; and several nephews, nieces and cousins.
Donald was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Joan Erickson; and two brothers, Wallace and Bruce. A00003B2000DC13
