
Thief River Falls - Bruce Erickson, 56, died on Saturday, November 1, 1997 at Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 2 p.m. today, Wednesday, November 5 at St. Bernard's Catholic Church with Father Dennis Wieland presiding. Mike Melby will be the organist. Father Joe Richards and Judy Dupree will be the song leaders. Special music will be provided by the Resurrection Choir. Casketbearers will be Bruce's nephews, Dale Adamski, Steven Erickson and Terry Konickson, cousin Tommy Peterson and friends Robert Filipy and Roger Pittman. The family will consider all city employees, former fellow postal employees, friends and relatives as honorary casketbearers. Military honors will be afforded by the Thief River Falls American Legion and VFW Posts. Burial will be in St. Bernard's Catholic Cemetery in Thief River Falls.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to services today at the church and from 2 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday at Green Funeral Home with a Biblical Wake service at 7 p.m.
Bruce Edward Erickson was born September 20, 1941 in Thief River Falls, the son of Elmer and Ingeborg "Belle" (Peterson) Erickson. He was baptized and confirmed at Clara Lutheran Church. Bruce attended school in St. Hilaire and Thief River Falls, graduating from Lincoln High School in 1959. He entered the United States Army and served for three years, mostly in Germany. Following his discharge he returned to the family farm near Plummer. Bruce later worked in the Twin Cities area before returning to Thief River Falls where he began a 23-year career with the Thief River Falls Post Office in January of 1970 retiring in October of 1992.
On August 22, 1970 Bruce was united in marriage to Evelyn Kasprowicz at St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Thief River Falls.
A devoted husband and father, he enjoyed good food and humor, motorcycling, snowmobiling and the company of family and friends. He was a member of St. Bernard's Parish, the American Legion and Eagle's Aerie of Thief River Falls. Bruce was employed by the City of Thief River Falls for the past three years.
Bruce is survived by his wife Evelyn; two sons, First Lt. Jared (Kyusuk) Erickson of Aiea, HI and Kevin Erickson of Thief River Falls; three brothers, Donald Erickson of Thief River Falls, Robert Erickson of Minneapolis and Wayne (Sandy) Erickson of Bedford, TX; one sister-in-law, Mary Ann Gagner of Mentor; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Wallace Erickson; and one sister, Joan Erickson.
