Alice Ennen, 91

Elmore - Alice Ennen, 91, died January 10, 1999 at the Timely Mission Nursing Home in Buffalo Center, IA.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, January 16 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Elmore with Reverend Kevin Buchs officiating. Karen Buchs was the organist, and the soloist was Susan Risius. Casketbearers were Jeff Lenz, Kent Peterson, Jerry Risius, Frank Haag and Raymer Wiese. Interment was in Riverview Cemetery in Elmore. The Winter Funeral Homes and Cremation of Buffalo Center and Thompson, IA was in charge of the arrangements.

Alice Bertha Franzman was born on July 28, 1907 in Grygla, the daughter of John and Katherine (Schick) Franzman. She was baptized on April 17, 1908 and confirmed on March 27, 1921 at Bethel Lutheran Church in Grygla by her brother-in-law, Reverend Henry Lutz.

Alice attended grade school in Grygla and graduated from high school in Thief River Falls. She graduated from Bemidji State Teachers College and taught in rural school in the Goodridge and Gatzke areas for six years.

On June 17, 1932 Alice was married to Henry Ennen of Lakota, IA at the Goodridge Church by Reverend E.F. Lorenz. Alice and Henry farmed in the Lakota, IA and Elmore, MN areas until 1964 when they moved into Elmore. Alice spent many summers working at the Green Giant Canning Company in Blue Earth.

Alice was a member of St. Matthew's Church in Stevens, IA where she taught Sunday school, attended Ladies Aid and played the organ for church services. In 1948 she became active at Trinity Lutheran Church in Elmore where she taught catechism and attended Ladies Aid and Bible study. She belonged to several card clubs and later attended the Senior Center in Elmore where she also played cards.

She moved to the Timely Mission Nursing Home Buffalo Center on October 14, 1998.

Alice is survived by two daughters, Arlene (Luverne) Risius of Buffalo Center, IA, and Marilyn Peterson of Golden, CO; one son, Don (Virginia) Ennen of Payson, AZ; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Henry in 1992; one son, David in 1959; two sisters, Minnie Bucholz and Ida Lutz; and three brothers, Gustaf Franzman, Alfred Franzman and John Franzman.
