William Engstrom, 85

Thief River Falls - William "Bill" Engstrom, 85, died Wednesday, September 22, 1999 at the CNC unit of Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, September 25 at Melo Lutheran Church, rural Warren with Rev. Richard Luedtke officiating. Darlyne Votava was the organist, and Mylo Carlson was the soloist. Casketbearers were Jerry Olson, Ronnie Swanson, Vern Norlund, Loren Hoff, Irvin Morberg and David Lamberson. Military honors were accorded by Warren American Legion Post 27. Interment was in Melo Lutheran Cemetery, rural Warren. The Quanrud-DuBore Funeral Home of Warren was in charge of the arrangements.

William Engstrom was born on November 2, 1913 at Alvarado, the son of John and Emily (Blom) Engstrom. He spent his early years in the Alvarado area where he attended country school.

On September 15, 1943, William was united in marriage to Evelyn Morberg. He served in the Army during World War II in the CBI Theatre. The couple made their home in rural Angus before moving to Thief River Falls in 1968. Bill worked for the Angus Elevator for several years before working at Arctic Cat in Thief River Falls. He retired in 1979.

Bill was a member of the Warren American Legion and Thief River Falls VFW.

He was also a member of the Melo Lutheran Church board for three years and enjoyed watching baseball and hockey.

Bill is survived by his wife, Evelyn; two daughters, LaVonne (Bruce) Seaverson of Middle River and Maureen (Chuck) Greentree of Bradenton, FL; one son, Gary (Violet) Engstrom of Thief River Falls; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Helen Larson of Grand Forks, ND and Myrtle Hoff of Oslo; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one grandson, Darren Seaverson; six sisters; and six brothers. A00003B1999SP29
