Kenneth Emerson, 83

Moorhead - Kenneth L. Emerson, 83, died Sunday, March 7, 1999 at Dakota-Heartland Hospital in Fargo, ND.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 11 at Faith Lutheran Church in Wolverton with Pastor Debra Hanson officiating. John Ness served as soloist and was accompanied by Mike Nelson. Casketbearers were Robert Getz, Dennis Edwards, Dale Rollie, Randy Emerson, Glenn Bowhall and Clarence Swenson. His grandchildren were honorary casketbearers. Interment was in Faith Lutheran Cemetery in Wolverton. The Dobmeier Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Kenneth L. Emerson was born March 9, 1915 near Fosston, the son of Edward and Vernie (Hillard) Emerson. He attended school and grew up in the Lengby area. In 1935 he joined the Civilian Conservation Corps serving with the U.S. Forestry Service in Grand Marais on the north shore of Lake Superior. Kenneth returned to the Norman county area, working for Hendrum area farmers.

On May 13, 1939 he married Eleanor Bjordahl at Gully. In the spring of 1940 the couple moved to the Wolverton area where they did tenant farming with the Nichol farm operation. In 1955 they purchased the farm where they lived and farmed until their retirement in 1970 when they moved into Wolverton. Kenneth continued to work for area farmers throughout the 1970's. Eleanor died in 1990. Kenneth became a resident of Fairmont Retirement Home in Moorhead in 1990 and continued to live there until the time of his death.

He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church and a member of the Deerhorn township board for more than 20 years. He was also a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Fargo, ND. Kenneth enjoyed playing cards with friends, reading, looking at photographs and outings with his family, especially to his daughter's lake home. His enjoyment of traveling included a trip to Norway.

Kenneth is survived by two daughters, Karen (Robert) Winsor of Green Oaks, IL and Susan (Miles) Olson of Thief River Falls; three sons, D. Bruce (JoAnn) Emerson of Baker, Keith "Kip" (Donna) Emerson of Osakis and K. Wayne (Gloria) Emerson of Barnesville; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one sister, Effy Handy of Gully; and three brothers, Curtis (Winnifred) Emerson of Wolverton, Willis Emerson of Horicon, WI, and Larry (Norma) Emerson of Clearbrook.

He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; three sisters, Amy, Edna and Lillian; and three brothers, Charlie, Leslie and Nobel.
