
Thief River Falls - Alma Elofson, 95, died Saturday, May 31, 1997 at the CNC Unit of Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls.
Following her burial earlier in the morning, funeral services celebrating Alma's life were held on Tuesday, June 3 at 11 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church. Ida Nordvall was the organist with Jan Peterson as soloist. The family considered all who considered Alma a friend to be honorary casketbearers. Arrangements were with the Green Funeral Home.
Alma Thune was born April 26, l902 in Smiley Township, Pennington County, the daughter of Peder and Gro (Tweeten) Thune. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Pauli Lutheran Church. She attended the Braaten School in Smiley Township and grew to adulthood there. Following school, she worked at the telephone office in Thief River Falls. She later attended Aaker Business College in Grand Forks, ND. She returned to Thief River Falls for two years before moving to Minneapolis where she worked for the Star and Journal Newspaper. On June 6, 1926 she was united in marriage to Harold Elofson in Minneapolis.
They lived in Minneapolis until l933 when they moved to Thief River Falls where Mr. Elofson owned and operated Elofson's Jewelry Store. Alma was active in her church and was a member of the Eastern Star Lodge and the Zehlian's.
She is survived by her three children, Rodger (Alice) of Baton Rouge, LA, Barbara (Sam) Cannizzaro of Dallas, TX, and Marlys (Cliff) McConnell of Birmingham, AL; seven grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in l955; triplet grandchildren, Mari, Kari and Lari; four sisters, Tony Amundson, Gilla Thune, infant sister Inga, and Inga Melby; and three brothers, twins Ole and Emil, and August.
