Kenneth Eggen, 72

Wannaska - Kenneth Eggen, 72, died Friday, November 24, 2000 at Roseau Area Hospital.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Monday, November 27 at Riverside Lutheran Church in Roseau. Interment was in Palmville Cemetery with Helgeson Funeral Chapel in charge of the arrangements.

Kenneth Odel Eggen was born on November 13, 1928 in Faith, S.D., the son of Rev. Morris and Ella (Satre) Eggen. The family moved to Hampden, N.D. where Kenneth started school. In 1938, they moved to Wannaska where he completed his elementary education. He attended Roseau High School for three years. When his parents moved to Medicine Lake, Mont., Kenneth attended his senior year at Oak Grove High School in Fargo, N.D. He completed one year at Augsburg College in Minneapolis.

On June 6, 1928, Kenneth was united in marriage to Vivian Ingebrigtson at Wannaska. He served in the U.S. Air Force for two years during the Korean Conflict and was trained in radar electronics and worked as a control tower operator.

Upon returning to Wannaska, he was involved in various lines of work, including operating a service station, television repair and sales, clearing land with a bulldozer, building roads and ditches, farming and hauling gravel. Kenneth drove school bus and coached grade school hockey at Skime and Wannaska.

He was invited to sing at several weddings, and during their 52 years of marriage, he and Vivian sang at many funerals.

Kenneth was a member of Riverside Lutheran Church where he served as a board member, Sunday School and Release Time teacher and Youth Group leader. He also sang with the church choir and men's chorus and helped plan the new addition to the church. He was a member of Riverside Men's Club, Gideons and Northern Laymen's Association. He served as a lay pastor at Bethlehem Lutheran Church at rural Greenbush for a number of years and spoke at many area churches. He was also the Palmville Town Clerk for a number of years.

Kenneth is survived by his wife, Vivian; three daughters, Roxanne (Richard) Rollefson of Altoona, Wisc., Colleen (Steven) Nelson of Wannaska and Dianne (Bill) Crisp of Rye, N.H.; six grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; four sisters, Ardys (Merle) Knutson of Hawley, Elaine (Norm) Rehbein of Los Altos, Calif., Ida Marie (Robert) Benson of Wannamingo and Audrey Scherf of Palm Springs, Calif.; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Morris and Carston. A00003B2000NV29
