
Thief River Falls - Earl Efteland, 79, died Saturday, December 12, 1998 at the CNC Unit of Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, December 15 at Zion Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls with Reverend Gary Johnson officiating. Ida Nordvall was the organist, and vocal music was provided by Don Wahlbeck. Casketbearers were Vern Dokkin, Vernon Lee, Ray S. Olson, Kenny Dunrud, Floyd Hallan, Arnold Kelly and Orville Hanson. Military honors were provided by the American Legion and VFW Posts of Thief River Falls. Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery. The Green Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Earl Marvin Efteland was born on September 11, 1919 in Thief River Falls, the son of Palmer and Ragna (Swensrud) Efteland. He attended school in Thief River Falls and was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church.
On April 5, 1941 Earl was united in marriage to Eunice Marjorie Nelson in Thief River Falls. He worked at several jobs before entering the United States Army in 1943. He served in World War II and was stationed in Korea. Following his honorable discharge he returned to Thief River Falls where he worked for Iron Fireman, Nash Finch, Co., Mobil, Stordahl Trucking and Western Oil and Fuel. After Earl retired he kept busy working on furnaces. He also raised hogs on a hobby farm.
He was a member of the American Legion and VFW of Thief River Falls.
Earl is survived by his wife, Eunice; three sons, Larry (Sharon) Efteland, Curtis Efteland and James (Judy) Efteland, all of Thief River Falls; three daughters, Shirley Austad of Thief River Falls, Darlene (Jerry) Olson of Newfolden and Nancy (Kevin ) Shafer of Cloquet; 15 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and three brothers, Myles, John and Morris.
