Lorenzo Eck, 76

Trail - Lorenzo Eck, 76, died Friday, November 17, 2000 at First Care Hospital in Fosston.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, November 20 at Sand Valley Lutheran Church in Trail with Rev. Robert Rains officiating. Marilyn Halvorson was the organist. Casketbearers were Leslie Watne, Danny Peterson, Jeff Eck, Erik Anderson, Craig Anderson and Dave Strommen. Interment was in Sand Valley Lutheran Church cemetery with Johnson Funeral Service of Oklee in charge of the arrangements.

Lorenzo Byron Eck was born on August 2, 1924 in Trail, the son of Leonard and Freda (Lee) Eck. He grew up and attended school in Trail. He entered the U.S. Army, serving stateside in 1946 and 1947. Following his honorable discharge, he worked for a time on ranches in Montana.

In 1956, he was united in marriage to Opal Qualey. Lorenzo worked for Minntac Mining Company and U.S. Steel at Mountain Iron until his retirement in 1983.

In 1973, Lorenzo was married to Idella Vennes in South Dakota. Following his retirement in 1983, the couple returned to Trail where he had since resided on the family farm. Idella died in 1994.

Lorenzo was fond of animals, especially horses. He won trophies for his participation in horse shows and as a young man had enjoyed breaking horses.

Survivors include three sons, Gregory (Connie) Eck of Trail, Michael (Chris) Eck of Elgin and James Eck of Duluth; a daughter, Linda (James) Fournier of Peoria, Ariz.; six grandchildren; extended family members, David and Shirley Anderson, Erik Anderson and Craig Anderson, all of Trail; Tammie (Jeff) Christian, Hunter Christian and Nichlas Christian, all of Stillwater; Beverly Anderson and Kristin Lieder of Brainerd; three sisters, Donna Watne of Gonvick, Delores (Don) Strommen of Crookston and Lois Peterson of McIntosh; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wives, Opal and Idella; a brother, Ronald Eck; and his parents. A00003B2000NV22
