Fairfax, VA - Gladys Carriere Dunning, 84, died Friday, October 10, 1997 at Inova Fair Oaks Hospital.
Gladys was born and raised in Minnesota. She graduated from Bemidji State University and taught in a rural elementary school before moving to Washington in 1946.
She taught second grade at an elementary school in Hyattsville for a few years before her marriage in 1953 to Lt. Bruce Dunning. She accompanied her husband on his Navy postings in the United States, the Netherlands and Belgium before settling in northern Virginia in 1969.
Survivors include her husband, Bruce Dunning of Fairfax, VA; one son, Gary Dunning of New York City, NY; one sister, Clara Jacobs of Greenbelt, MD; and two brothers, James Carriere of Middle River and Robert Carriere of Foley.
